Hello! My name is Miles Barry. I’m an undergraduate student at UC Davis, majoring in Applied Statistics and Science & Technology Studies (STS). I’m currently abroad at Fudan University in Shanghai.
I’m working on Cosine, a platform that lets people discover new musicians and back them through a modified parimutuel market.
I’m the associate director of ASUCD’s Innovation and Research Lab (IRL), where I oversee projects like the 2026 AI Usage Report and the 2025 Undergraduate Basic Needs Report.
During summer 2026, I interned at my hometown paper The Point Reyes Light, covering rural West Marin. I wrote about the harbor seal pupping season, fire blight, and tenancy-in-common agreements.
In the STS department, I’m a research assistant to Dr. Jens Pohlmann. We were awarded a 2027 UC VOICE grant to continue our work on campus & platform speech. Dr. Finn Brunton is supervising my forthcoming senior thesis on prediction markets.
I wrote opinion columns for The California Aggie. My favorites are about prediction market regulation, the gamification of U.S. military operations, seed oils, and t-shirts.
I led video production at the Student Startup Center for two years, directing and editing shorts about our programs, including Startup School, Build Black, and Innovation for Impact.
During my gap year, I interned at The Bronx Defenders.
